Werewolf By Night (2020-) #1 (of 4)

With a new focus on another character, this being a young Hopi Native American teen named Jake Gomez, Werewolf By Night (2020-) #1 (of 4) reboots the series and long lasting character in a fresh new take. Taboo, a member of Black Eyed Peas, cowrote this with Benjamin Earl and they created a really good introduction to a new story and protagonist. In this comic, Jake protects his people's tribal lands from intruders with the help of his grandmother and sister. As this takes place during the Outlawed event, Jake has to be careful to not get caught by the government as he investigates a company that's kidnapping people. When he finds a truck that's transporting a few people, Jake is attacked by villains enhanced by cybernetic parts sent my the same company, Life Pharmaceuticals. Sure a lot of the story is very standard, with so much information to explain the new characters, but does it in a way that gets the reader to dive in perfectly into this new series. Planned for just four issues, this first one is well paced and doesn't give too much away while giving us just enough to get one interested in what's to come. Its artwork and coloring between Scot Eaton, Scott Hanna, and Miroslav Mrva is nothing too special but gives us something very clear and well done. With just this introductory issue, Werewolf By Night (2020-) #1 (of 4) is good enough on it own, but still leaves enough intrigue to get you to get the next three. Over all: 98%
