A one-shot that is meant to both be a lead in to a new series with the same name and gives us a look at how the DC Multiverse has changed due to the events of
Death Metal,
Generations, and
Future State,
Infinite Frontier (2021) #0 has a a lot to offer for both old and new readers. The main story of this issue deals with Wonder Woman, who after having defeated the Batman Who Laughs but sacrificing herself to save reality, ascending to a higher plane of existence. It's there that Diana meets the Quintessence, a council of cosmic beings that include Spectre, Highfather, and Hera, whose main priority is to protect the multiverse from greater threats. They want her to join them and try to convince Diana by showing the many ways the universe has changed. Through an anthological format, we witness the start of new storylines that include the Justice League learning about a combination of Shazam and Black Adam, Batman investigating an attack at Arkham by the Joker, and Barry Allen exploring the new universes and giving Wally West the mantle of Flash. While it does inspire Diana, she declines their offer due to believing that there is a threat that the Quintessence are unaware of. As soon as she leaves, they are indeed attacked by the very threat that none of them thought would be possible, an escaped Darkseid. Through its framing story and unique anthological format, DC's newest attempt at explaining its new reboot is certainly memorable. Most of the stories, like the small vignette of young heroes attending Teen Titans Academy or the return of Stargirl, do a good job at starting new storylines for future comics to handle. A few, such as Batman's, don't really highten as much interests and just feel like something that has been done before. However, even when the stories don't bring much interest as to what happens next, the writing, each done by a different person, are still pretty good. Something else unique with the stories is that different artists and colorists work on them, all giving unique and interesting looks. Not all of them may be so perfect, but the detail and passion is very noticeable and hard not to appreciate.That's especially true when looking at the intro with Wonder Woman and the Quintessence as well as Alan Scott's story.
Infinite Frontier (2021) #0 does a lot more than inform us of what's going on in another DC reboot, but also lets us know of the many facets that will be ongoing through great writing and interesting artwork. Over all: 100%
