Quoting Fever screenplay.

1          INT. FILM PRODUCTION STUDIO- MARCH 10, 1925                                                          1
JACK TUPON was an aspiring screenwriter who decided to pitch a new film that would be different from others. He would go to the head of Entertainment Center Picture’s office, Max Jutter, every time he got a good idea for a film. On that day, however, Jack had a very revolutionary idea that could change the way films will forever be ever made, although he just had to wait outside of Jutter’s office until his secretary told him it was all right to go.
SECRETARY
You’ll have to wait. Mr. Jutter is in a meeting right now.
JACK
That’s alright.
Jack waited four more minutes until someone walked out of the room and the secretary said he was now available. Jack entered Jutter’s office.

2          INT. FILM PRODUCTION STUDIO OFFICE- CONTINUED                                                 2
JACK SAT in one of the chairs that were in front of Jutter’s desk which he was sitting behind. Max was writing something down on a piece of paper before he looked straight at Jack.
MAX JUTTER
So, what do you have for me this time?
JACK
Well, sir. I found an extraordinary new way of probably making movies.
MAX
Oh! And how is that?
JACK
Well, I have a friend. He is an inventor. My friend has found a way to not only film movement like all cameras do but also record sound.
MAX
Record sound! That means-
JACK
We can now make films with sound!
MAX
No more reading what they say?
JACK
Yes, sir! We can now hear it.
Max got up from his seat and walked to a window.
MAX
This will forever change how we make movies.
JACK
This will change how the audience sees films.
Max turned around and faced Jack.
MAX
So, what now?
JACK
That’s another reason why I’m here, sir. I was thinking that I would like to make the first film to use this.
MAX
Do you have a story ready, along with a screenplay?
JACK
I have a story. I haven’t written a screenplay, yet.
MAX
Well, what are you waiting for? Quick, before someone else finds out.
JACK
Yes, sir!

3              INT. JACK’S HOME- JUNE 8TH OF SAME YEAR                                                              3
THREE MONTHS HAVE PASSED since Jack spoke to his boss about the idea of making the first ever sound film. Jack began to write the screenplay a week after his meeting with Max and has found it a great challenge of coming up with a way for the film to have great lines that the audience will now hear. For the past two weeks, however, Jack has been trying to write a good ending to his film and wants it to end with a really great line that will forever be remembered. In enters his brother Frank.
FRANK
How’s it coming?
JACK
Not good. I need a good line here, but I can’t think of anything.
FRANK
You know what you need?
JACK
What?
FRANK
A little, break.
JACK
I can’t, Frank. I have to finish this thing.
FRANK
Come on. Let’s just go on a small road trip. It’ll help you. Besides, three of your films have already been released and have gone on well. You have the money, so you have nothing to worry about, right?
JACK
I guess you’re right. Fine!

4             EXT. HOLLYWOOD- SAME DAY                                                                                         4
IT WAS A NICE AND SUNNY day when Jack decided to take a break from writing his unfinished screenplay. However, no matter where he went he kept thinking of his film. When they were hungry, they deiced to go to a nice restaurant.
FRANK
You’ll love this place. It’s really great.
JACK
All right!
A waiter appeared to take their order.
WAITER (with Italian accent)
May I take your---Wait aren’t you Jack Tupon, the famous film writer.
JACK (embarrassed)
Yes, I am. Look I don’t want to make a big deal out of this. Is the food good here?
WAITER
Our chef is the best. If he isn’t I’ll give him an offer he can’t refuse to make it good.
                 Jack looked at the waiter.
FRANK
We’ll just have burgers.
WAITER
That will be good, sir.
The waiter left, but Jack kept that confused look.
FRANK
You okay?
JACK (confused)
Yeah!
A few minutes later a different waiter, this one big and muscled, came in to give them some bread.
FRANK
Can we have some butter?
BIG WAITER (with thick German accent)
I’ll be back!
                 The big waiter left.
JACK (confused)
Did you hear that?
FRANK
Hear what?
Moments later a married couple was heard arguing with each other at their table. The married woman slapped the husband and left.
MARRIED MAN (yelling)
HEYY STELLAAA!
Jack again looked freaked out. Then a dog came walking to his feet and began leaking his shoes. A small pale looking man came forward pulling at a leash that the dog was attached to.
DOG MAN (in raspy voice)
My precious! My precious! Let’s go!
Jack just stared at the man.
DOG MAN
I have a cold.

5              INT. PHOTO MUSEUM-SAME DAY                                                                                    5
AFTER THE BROTHERS ATE they decided to visit a museum of photography that was a few blocks from the restaurant. There they looked at both old and modern uses of photography as great art.
FRANK
You see its things like this that inspired you. Even these great artists took breaks.
JACK
Yeah, I guess you’re right.
Suddenly, both Jack and Frank were slapped on the back of their head and when they turned around the saw a good friend of theirs.
                                                                           FRIEND
                                                                  HEERE’S JOHNNYY!
FRANK
John! What’s with the slap on the back?
JACK
Yeah, and what are you doing here?
JOHNNY
Boys! I am now an artist. The slap was for fun. Anyway, say hello to my little friend!
Johnny pointed to a series of photographs of different animals wearing glasses a few feet from where they stood.
JACK
That’s good. Did you call your mom, yet, about it?
JOHNNY
Yup! The first thing I told her was ‘Made it Ma, top of the world’!
JACK (weird out)
Really?!
FRANK
Then what?
JOHNNY
She didn’t believe me at first. She kept telling to show me the money! I became as mad as heck and couldn’t take it anymore! Then, I remembered the words that show that I tell the truth.
FRANK
Which are?
JOHNNY
There’s no place like home.

6               EXT.-BUILDING CONSTRUCTION-SAME DAY                                                              6
AFTER THE MUSEUM, Frank took Jack to the building of a new skyscraper as one final place for his break.
JACK
Thanks, Frank. I really needed this.
FRANK
Are you feeling better, now? Got a good idea for how to end your film? Are you ready to hand it in and make it?
JACK
Yes to all of those.
FRANK
You have a good final line?
JACK
YES!
FRANK
What is it?
JACK
It’s---
Just then, a small hammer from one of the workers a few feet above Jack fell and bumped him in the head making him unconscious.

7                INT. HOSPITAL ROOM-UNKNOWN                                                                                7
AFTER JACK GOT HIT IN THE HEAD by the hammer and dropped unconscious, Frank called for help and got Jack to a hospital where he ended up in a coma. The doctors informed Frank that the coma could last anywhere from a few days to decades. However, after an unknown amount of time, Jack woke up.
JACK
What happened?
FRANK
You got into a coma after getting hit on the head by a hammer.
JACK
Wait, that’s it!
FRANK
What’s it?
JACK
Did you bring my work?
FRANK
Yeah! It’s right there in case---
Jack immediately got out of bed, grabbed his papers and quickly exited from his room.
FRANK
Wait, Jack!
JACK
Sign out for me!

8                  INT. MAX’S OFFICE-SAME DAY                                                                                    8
IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING the hospital, Jack went to his boss’s office having now finished his script when getting there. All he could think about while getting there was his film and not about his health, how long he was in the coma, or anything else. When he got to Max’s office he was both surprised and happy to see him.
MAX
Jack! You’re awake, thank goodness! I thought you’d never wake up from that coma.
JACK
Never mind that, sir! I finished it!
MAX
What?
JACK
The screenplay to make the first sound film!
MAX
Oh, right! Well, about that.
Jack handed him his screenplay without noticing what Max said. Max read some of it and went immediately to the end and read the line Jack was desperate to find.
MAX (reading the screenplay)
Oh, the hammer has been dropped!
Max put the screenplay down and looked at Jack.
MAX
I’m sorry, Jack. You’ve been in that coma for about five years now.
JACK
Really?! So, what?
MAX
It’s 1932. There was already a first sound film made in 1927, called The Jazz Singer. You’re five years too late. Since then there have been several sound films.
Jack had a disappointed and sad look on his face.
JACK
Really?! Well, what about my line at the end, is it good?
MAX
I’m sorry, Jack, I just don’t get the line. I can’t use this.
JACK
Oh.

9                    INT. HOSPITAL-SAME DAY                                                                                          9
WHEN FRANK WAS finished with signing all the papers necessary for when Jack left in a hurry, he saw Jack enter the hospital.
FRANK
Jack, where have you been?!
JACK (spaced out)
Did you there were sound films made while I was in a coma?
FRANK
What? Oh, yeah. Sorry.
JACK
No worries. By the way is there a psychiatric or mental place in this hospital?
FRANK
Yeah! Why?
JACK
No reason.
Just then a doctor walked in with a man who was hobbling with one foot.
DOCTOR (loudly)
I need help here! This man’s foot is broken after a hammer fell on his foot hard! I repeat the hammer has been dropped!
The minute that Jack heard what the doctor said he immediately started to laugh like crazy and walked straight to the hospital’s mental ward.

End.
